Mid September and the going great!
Every year right around now Roy and I are planning our last big ride of the season. October 12th we'll be heading to Barber Motorsports Park where we'll hang out with our friends and enjoy three action packed days of racing , trials, auctions and swap meets at the track!
We'll leave the track sometime late Sunday night and start our way down towards Daytona Beach. It's surprising further than you'd expect from Leeds, Alabama to Daytona Beach..several hundred miles to be sure. We'd sure like to see one of the 2 Wheel Power hour listeners get an opportunity to join us at the LaPlaya Resorts and Suites for a weeks worth of fun in the sun! Here's how you can be a part of it….
Listen to the motorcycle show each week and simply call in to qualify for a weeks stay at the La Playa..7 days and 6 nights, complimentary drink in the Penthouse, VIP Covered Parking and free bike wash. All compliments of our friends at LaPlaya Resorts and Suites on Atlantic Blvd. in Daytona Beach. New Castle Harley Davidson is again the site of the fabulous beach party. We'll use the Reverse raffle system to find out who's going to Daytona!
We will again broadcast live from the foyer at the LaPlaya and look forward to a large crowd visiting with us. This is the best time of the year to ride your bike to Daytona! We'd sure like all you riders to stop by so we can all go out for dinner together on our bikes!
That's about it! Hang in there and I'll catch you down the road.
Hi everybody! I hope this summer has given you plenty of opportunities to swing a leg over your bike and enjoy one of the many freedoms we have in this country…the ability to ride our motorcycles ! This past weekend Roy and I attended our 5th consecutive Indy Moto GP and Indy Mile.
While there are many stories to be told and we'll do so throughout the remaining weeks in August , one story I wanted to mention was our great veterans and what a difference they are making in the world of motorsports. While in Gasoline Alley Pete Cline the newly appointed Director for VETM (Veterans EmpoweredThrough Motorsports ) had Roy and I meet veterans with varying degrees of injuries from serving in Iraq and Afghanistan. It was awesome to see how those guys are able to fill roles as pit crew members . God Bless OUR Troops and returning VETS!
I couldn't believe the number of people that saw Roy and I and remarked that they listen to the show on the IHEART Radio App! Man that is cool.
Special people to thank while visiting the Indianapolis Moto GP and Indy Mile are (in no particular order) Tim Sullivan Media Coordinator for the Indianapolis Speedway, Pete Cline Veterans Empowered Through Motorsports, Kent-Russ and Ben from the Ohio Mini Roadracing League, Matt Louck and Leah Burnette from the Indy Mile, our buddies that we meet each year Greg Senior and Junior, Bob, Keith and his son Chris from Yamaha/Triumph of Warren, ROBERT from the Service Pavilion, Tom Lowdermilk from Side Stand Up and of course if there's a big race our Title sponsor Fairway Ford's Bob Davis is there!
Great weather throughout the weekend. Neat to be invited into the XR 1200 pits and see what goes on before, between and after the races. Fan walk Saturday night at the Moto GP was everything a fan could want. Moto 2 and 3 races were very competitive but everyone comes for the Big Show , the Moto GP where Bradl set the top speed record at 203 and change and Marquez set the new lap record. The new guard has arrived in the form of Marc Marquez who if he stays healthy could try and reach Agostini's record. My man Valentino Rossi who a scant three years ago dominated the Moto GP scene ended up fourth just off the box. Nicky Hayden did his best on a slower Ducati ending up eighth but a huge fan favorite.
Saturday nights mile was an eye opener. If I was to tell you I saw more young women racing big bikes on the mile would you ever believe me? Well it's true. Shayna Texter won the Singles Mile and Bryan Smith won the Twins Expert mile. There were two or three women racing big bikes and they placed in the top ten. I can't believe these petite little girls standing no taller than 5' 5" and probably weighing 100 pounds handling these beasts down a mile track. Wow this to me is the greatest spectacle in motorcycle racing bar none.
It's about 320 miles and change to Indianapolis making it such an easy jaunt I might take in a Colts game sometime :) yeh when they play the Browns! Weather was perfect for the weekend and our bikes got great gas mileage averaging around 42 mpg and Roy's new bike about 50.
Law Enforcement was out in droves and in Indiana the cars are all unmarked and they have lights that shine right through the windshields. Putting your speed at the posted numbers ensured you not getting a ticket. Plenty of construction on I-71 . If you're heading to Columbus best to take Route 30 to I-71 and avoid the construction. From Greenfield, Indiana on I-70 all the way into Indianapolis there was construction both real and imaginary. The imaginary ones are where they put up a sign that says construction (there wasn't any that we could see) and post a 45 mph speed limit on a major highway then you go 47 and get a ticket and a fine that is doubled. Watch out and do the speed limit.
Roy and I are going to start updating this website weekly to follow our radio broadcast more closely. Always looking to hear from our listeners. You can fax me at 330-965-8277 or email me at firstname.lastname@example.org
Roy and I are always looking forward to hearing from you and thanks for allowing us to visit with you each week.
Hang in There…. Larry
