DAYTONA BIKE WEEK…. I can't say enough how great the Bike Week trip was. Yeah it's always Bikes, Babes, booze and whatever but this year had those things and so much more! Kenny, Roy and I drove straight through 17 and one-half hours to Daytona Beach, the LaPlaya Resorts & Suites our home away from home. It's nice to always have the same room. Just a couple of steps from the elevator and we're in air conditioned luxury. We couldn't of asked for a better partner than the LaPlaya Resorts & Suites and our good friend Monica Quartro. The staff made sure we had what we needed when it came time to broadcast and there's always plenty of college girls hanging on us wanting to be radio stars…ya know :)

 Every day in Daytona provided something different in the way of entertainment. One day we went to America's oldest city St. Augustine and meet Leif Gustaffson the MAN when it comes to windshields for race bikes and aftermarket screens. Great stories, a cool shop and Roy and I scored a good price on a custom windshield for our bikes. Another day we hung out at the beach boogie boarding. I have to tell you wrestling the tides can really tire you out and if you're not careful it'll take you out, way out. We also met a guy who fished from the shore called surf fishing. He showed us how to rig the hooks and where the two sandbars were. Between the sandbars was a trough where the fish roamed looking for food. The fisherman told me not to go in at dark especially near the trough because the sharks are nocturnal feeders! Geez I didn't like that.

 I spent two days at the track with Jim Poolers Vance and Hines XR 1200 race team. Jim had trouble qualifying Thursday experiencing handling problems and eventually found a bent frame causing the handling issues and DNS on race day. I felt bad for this privateer team but look forward to catching Jim and his team at an XR event down the line.

 On the day of our broadcast we braved the coastal waters tracking down the mutant life form known as a Hermit Crab. One of nature's more unsightly creatures for he has one huge arm and one very small arm. Roy snuck up on them and when they saw him started moving toward me until they saw they were cornered and put up a vicious fight! We subdued one of those buggers and I have a picture to prove it!  I can definitely say I got crabs in Daytona. Tuesday night's show was fun with New Castle Harley Davidson's Bike Trip winners Tom and Dense Pappas stopping by for a visit. Man this couple really knew how to enjoy Daytona! Thanks to Bill Bamberger and staff at NCHD for their support.

 Friday we had an invite to a night club where we were VIP's of the quartet QTQ! 50's and 60's Do-Wop..honestly I sang, danced and drank the night away finally all of us getting out of there near 12:30am!

 Saturdays Daytona Superbike was awesome. The lead bikes in qualifying hit 204 miles per hour down the straight-aways made the hair on my neck stand up and I wasn't even on the bike! Congratulations to up and coming Super Star Elena Meyers who captured a women's first ever victory at Daytona Super Sport division. Finally to the 57 lap Daytona 200. Unlike last year's tire fiasco the bikes went the entire 57 laps with only one minor caution! That's nuts!! Newcomer Joey Pascarella dominated to pull out a close fought victory. This was one of the best races ever!

 I sat with Dave Brickner and the group from the MSTA (Motorcycle Sport Touring Association) a nationwide club consisting of many very good riders who attend many of these races and their own events called Star.

As I write this I feel rejuvenated… my bike, my buddies and a great venue the Daytona Bike Week. I look forward to coming back for Daytona Biketoberfest this fall. See you down the road.  Larry
