Tuesday July 22, 2013 Well we're about the middle of July and I can't believe how fast this year in motorcycling has gone! The last two weeks have been wall to wall Mid Ohio from Buckeye Super Bike week to Vintage Motorcycle Days it was a blast. I'll recap the highlights event by event.
Super Bike Week started off with the 2 Wheel Power Hour giving away tickets to SB week. I hustled down last Friday and just was able to make the first race which was Daytona Sport Bike and in the victory circle I got a great interview with Cam Beauvier. Josh Hayes pounded out a minute lead in the first of his double win weekend. We had the famous or shall I say now infamous crash on the recreational ride sponsored by the dealers!
The biggest disappointment of the week was our good friend Larry Peagram and the problems he had with handling on Sunday causing his crash out. A terrible thing for one of the classiest guys on the circuit and by now we're hoping all went well at Laguna Seca.
Fast forward to one of the wildest weekends at VMD in a long time. The weather as well as the racing was gnarly. I must have had my rain suit on and off three different times..each just missing keeping me dry. The Ohio Mini Road racers were out in force. Bill Doran, Brian Conrad, Jordan Reed, Steve Massey and others did a tremendous job representing the Ohio Mini Road Racing League with podium finishes in their class as well as Jordan Reeds Number One finish overall not just his class!
Jesse Ghiorzzi and his staff did a marvelous job getting and keeping the track clean and race ready.
I camped out with the Paisley Brothers plus One…sounds like a band huh? Well it's actually 3 brothers; George, Jack and Paul Paisley ) all Triumph riders and Ron Craig another Triumph rider. I joined them for dinner at the Whiffletree Restaurant in Butler, Ohio for dinner then to the campground where more tall tales were told.
All in all, I pounded out 609 miles exactly going back and forth with a trip back Saturday night to attend my granddaughters 4th birthday party. What a blast 53/ 4 year olds. When I left my ears were ringing just like I rode behind an open piped Haley for three hours..ha,ha!
Coming up in August another big month for motorcycling. We have several Western Reserve Motorcycle Club Flat Tracks events, the Indy Moto GP, the BMW 4 Winds rally, and the Penton ISDT Reunion Ride. Sandwiched in between is the Ohio Valley BSA event in Toronto, Ohio.
Plenty of good riding, great racing and a whole lotta fun in store for us. We'd like to see each and everyone of you down the road so remember please ALL THE GEAR, ALL THE TIME!
