Ron Verb
Background Check
Ron grew up in Medina, Ohio and started in broadcasting at the age of 14, following in his older brother's footsteps at WHLO in Akron. Former Youngstown talk-show host Nick Anthony schooled Verb in the "art" of talk radio at WHLO. Ron left the Akron station more than a decade later to go to WHBC radio in Canton. After several years in Canton, then WKBN program director Pete Gabriel called to offer a spot on WKBN radio, which had just hired Youngstown talk show icon Dan Ryan. Ryan worked mornings 8:30 till noon and Verb worked nights from 7-11. As the talk format expanded the Verb show moved to 3-7 pm. Ron Verb  has been hosting a show on WKBN for 22 years, making it the longest running show on the station.

Weekday afternoons just wouldn't be the same with out the daily reality check with Ron Verb. From politics to lifestyles, sports to music, Ron dissects it all with help from the Valley's best callers.

GAS PRICES
Monday 06-30-2008 1:31pm ET
Everyone has become a Texas oilman these days because of the cost of a gallon of gas.  I agree that the more drilling you can do in this country and add to the supply lines can help keep prices in check.  However, the American oil companies that will do the actual drilling, and take all the risk, will own that oil, not the American people.  It is a pretty sure bet, that they will sell it on the open market for the highest price or current market price.  This idea some people have that it is America's oil and it will be sold for half the market price is just nuts.  The company that finds it, drills it, owns it and will sell it for top dollar.  The only point that makes sense, is that the more oil on the market, might bring prices down.  All the signs show people are making changes, and this will do more to impact are oil prices long before we bring in the next big oil field.  People changing from 15MPH SUV to Cobalts getting 35MPG will be using and buying a lot less gas.  As we see this hugh shift in the market for what we drive, it shows people will adjust and continue to love the freedom the car gives them to do what they want, when they want.  Sure, we are driving less and changing what we are driving and saving a lot of gas.  We will see if the price will come down, with world demand in China and India.  By the way, since these people make a lot less money then us Americans, how can they continue to afford these high prices.  Add it all up, and I think high oil and energy prices are going to stay and put a drag on the economy and everyones household budget.......Latere Ron
RANDOM THOUGHTS
Tuesday 05-27-2008 2:35pm ET

What is Marc Dann doing these days?  Sometimes I wonder what the late Dan Ryan would think about the presidential election and four dollar a gallon gas.....I miss watching Angie Shaker on television...Ted Kennedy has the same birthday as I do, Feb. 22, so I was sad to see him have his latest health problem a brain tumor....Have you made note that it seems a lot more people have brian tumors these days, and I wonder if cell phones have something to do with that....Memorial Day will always be the real start of summer for me, and Labor Day the wrap up...Time goes by fast, my kid is now as tall as me, and still growing.  I enjoy listening to the Indians on radio, it is a part of summer...Law and Order is still one of the best shows on television, and so is CSI Miami....Landing the probe on Mars and the pictures that are coming back are really amazing and shows how smart some people are to be able to do that....I am glad when my kids are out of school for summer vacation and can have fun and relax a little...How will some people make it this winter when your natural gas bill will double.  So if you paid two hundred a month last winter, it will be four hundred this coming winter...Sometimes we talk so much about the price of a barrel of oil, that we might drive it up higher with all the talk...Love him or hate him, I listen to Rush to hear what he has to say.....More later ....Ron
