How can we miss? 500 thousand cars passing thru Mahoning valley each day. They will go right by the new casino too. In fact some say that the intersection of 80 and route 11 is the most heavily traveled intersection in the nation. Sunday's Vindy report touted 1000 construction jobs and a thousand permanent jobs. Nearly 7 million people within 75 miles of Youngstown, two major interstates, a new casino, shale gas coming out of our ears, the airport on the grow, how can we miss?
Since I have been in the valley, nearly 30 years now, we seemed to have missed a lot. CAC, government accounting center, daily air service, Avanti car plant, you know the list. Have we finally turned the corner, we won one, the billion dollar pipe mill just completed by Vallorec. North Side hospital was rescued from the bone yard, and infused with money by Community Health systems. Maybe things are starting to change in the valley.
We really have to start thinking of the marketing area as more than the Mahoning Valley. The casino will be the Valley's best chance to tout other services, and grow them. 500 hundred thousand cars daily, and nearly 7 million people living within 75 miles of the city and plenty of land and water to grow any business. Lets not screw it up. Lets tell others what we already know, this is a great place to live with affordable housing and good schools. The Mahoning Valley is getting a second chance to be great.
