You and I could sit down with spiral note book or an old Atari PC and write a budget for this country in a couple of hours. Yet the Obama administration hasn't passed one in 3 years. You and I could mandate that all Federal agencies will get a penny less per dollar in their budget line. That alone would balance the budget in less than 6 years. Also known as "The Penny Plan" it never received serious consideration.
We could look at the 700 military bases we currently have and decide which are essential to our security, keeping those and chopping the rest. We could look at retirement age, and easily move it up to 70 in the next 10 years and save a ton of money.
You and I could look at Social Security and Medicare and determine who absolutely needs it? Likely not Phil Michelson or Rush? All of these common sense ideas could be implemented by president Obama and John Boehner, yet neither seems interested.
People say I talk about the debt too much and besides that it's George Bush's debt whatever that means? The currently reality indicates that the debt will make us all poor if left to it's own devices. If the money you have banked is worth less every year you are becoming less wealthy by a thousand cuts.
What does the congress give us? In the recent Hurricane Sandy relief bill for the Jersey shore they stuck in, transportation, not limited to the East coast, 2 million for Smithsonian roof repairs and 16 billion for community development for any community that declares an emergency. Seems it's pretty hard to focus on the shore when you are in congress.
